Police Blotter: Officers Aid Boater in Lake St. Clair

The following information was gathered from the Grosse Pointe Park and City of Grosse Pointe public safety departments. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Park public safety officers helped a 48-year-old Redford Township man whose boat started taking on water in Lake St. Clair June 20 near Windmill Pointe Drive. The man was not injured and he was already securing his 18-foot boat to a break wall when offices arrived. The Windmill Pointe resident called police because he believed the boat to be in distress, Lt. James Smith said. The boat owner planned to arrange for the proper repairs to the boat, Smith said. Crime Interrupted A resident in the 1000 block of Bedford Road called police about 4:30 a.m. June 21 after spotting a man he believed was trying to steal a car. Grosse Pointe Park Police Investigate Purse Snatch Attempt

The following information is gathered from the Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

A man who approached a 21-year-old woman near Maryland and Goethe streets in Grosse Pointe Park June 18 ran after the woman refused to give up her purse, according to police.  The man tried to take the purse from her shoulder but the woman held on to it and he ran away. The man is described as about 5-foot-11, 18 years old, black with a medium build and short wavy hair. He was last seen wearing a black long-sleeve shirt with gold buttons and dark jeans.  After the would-be robber ran from the woman, she called police. The woman was not injured and the man did not get anything from her, according to a report.  Meanwhile, detectives are investigating another purse snatching in which the robber got away with the victim's belongings. Police Blotter: Burning Embers Blamed in Garage Fire

Smoldering embers thrown in the garbage before they were totally out are to blame for a two-car detached garage fire battled by Grosse Pointe Park firefighters June 19. Crews were called to the fire just after midnight June 19 to find flames from the ground crawling up to the eaves, troughs and overhang of the garage. Crews doused the fire, which was in a corner of the garage.  Suspicious Youth Warned Grosse Pointe Park police issued warnings to four Detroit young men ranging in age from 12 to 19 after they were spotted in the backyard of a home in the 700 block of Whittier Road June 15. Police received a suspicious persons report about the youth being in the backyard and responding officers found them walking from the scene. Officers …

Police Blotter: Fingerprint Leads to Arrest of Alleged Burglar

The following information is gathered from the police departments in the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested a 20-year-old Detroit man after fingerprint evidence from a burglary revealed his identity to investigators. Christopher David Wright was already in police custody in Detroit when Park detectives received his fingerprint identification from Michigan State Police lab technicians. Wright admitted to breaking into a home in the 1400 block of Berkshire Road June 3 and stealing luggage and two laptops. Wright made his initial appearance in court June 10. He is charged with second-degree home invasion, punishable by up to 15 years in prison.  Meanwhile, Park police are investigating three other burglaries. Police Blotter: Purse Snatched at Woman's Home

Grosse Pointe Park police are looking for a man who stole the purse of a resident as she approached her porch. The following information is obtained from the Grosse Pointe Park police department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Grosse Pointe Park police are looking for a man who stole the purse of a resident in the 1000 block of Wayburn Street June 6 as she approached her home. The 23-year-old woman told police she got out of her car and began walking to her house to discover the man on her front porch demanding her purse. The woman told the man no and fought the theft, but the man got it away from her. He then ran away between neighboring homes, according to a report. The man is described as about 25 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall, black with a dark complexion and was last seen wearing a light blue T-shirt and dark jeans, according to police.
