The Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce hired a new parade director this week for the annual event the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Grosse Pointer Nora Dennehy Glenn will be the new director for the Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade that happens annually the day after Thanksgiving. The Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce announced the selection of Glenn for the role on Facebook this week. Glenn has a background in public relations with a degree in speech communication and public relations. The Chamber recently took over the responsibility of the parade as the role of the Grosse Pointe Village Association is changing. The association is now the commuication link between the businesses and the Downtown Development Authority. The holidays are made a little brighter for needy children in southeast Michigan when a new toy is delivered by Toys for Tots--that is the mission of the United States Marine Corps Reserve's program said Staff Sergeant Robert Stoddard, this year's Marine Coordinator. Stoddard is assigned to the 1st Battalion 24th Marines at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. "This year the need is even greater than last year. We're doing our best to help out every needy child," Stoddard said. Stoddard said more donations are needed, however. The 37th annual Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade is the biggest event of the year in the Grosse Pointe area, and the 2012 edition will showcase nearly 100 parade units and community groups! GROSSE POINTE FARMS – The Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) announced that responsibility for hosting the annual Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade is transferring from the Grosse Pointe Village Association to the Chamber of Commerce, starting with the 2013 Parade. The Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade is one of the community’s most popular events, taking place the day after Thanksgiving and running from the Grosse Pointe’s "Hill" business district through the Village of Grosse Pointe. GROSSE POINTE - The Friends of the Grosse Pointe Parade, a nonprofit organization focused on the enhancement of the Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade, is inviting the public to its third annual holiday event. This year’s festivities are scheduled for Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. and will take place at Grosse Pointe Farms Pier Park. The Friends of the Grosse Pointe Parade are partnering with Toys for Tots for the fourth consecutive year, providing multiple opportunities to drop off unwrapped gifts to support children in need.
