Click It or Ticket Campaign Starts May 20 in Grosse Pointe Woods

Grosse Pointe Woods Director of Public Safety announced plans to participate in the annual campaign enforcing the use of seatbelts in moving vehicles. This year the enforcement focus will begin May 20 and end June 2.

Motorists driving in Grosse Pointe Woods should make sure to be buckled up as the Department of Public Safety prepares to begin its annual participation in the Click It or Ticket campaign.  The stepped-up enforcement for seatbelt usage will begin May 20 and continue through June 2, according to a press release issued by Director of Public Safety for the Woods, Andrew Pazuchowski.  Law enforcement departments from across the country participate in the campaign aimed at educating motorists about the importance of wearing a seatbelt and being properly restrained in a car.  Although Michigan laws require all people, drivers and passengers to wear seatbelts, Pazuchowski highlights statistics released by Michigan State Police for 2012 in which …

Grosse Pointe Firefighters Train on Irvine Lane

Public Safety officers from the Grosse Pointes recently participated in a joint firefighter training exercise on Irvine Lane as part of a larger plan to train together and make purchases as one group rather than five.

Public safety officers from the five Grosse Pointes participated in a joint training exercise on Irvine Lane as part of a bigger plan by the Grosse Pointe Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee to streamline firefighting services.  The training was set up in five stations, including: The group training is the result of an agreement approved by the five Grosse Pointe city councils as recommended by the Grosse Pointe Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee. St. Joan of Arc Festival is an "Affair" For All

The St. Joan of Arc Festival returns this weekend with rides, food tents and more for attendees of all ages. What is your favorite part of the weekend-long event?

Carnival rides, cotton candy, speciality foods and raffles are some of the attractions this weekend at the St. Joan of Arc Festival. Here is the schedule for the weekend from St. Joan of Arc: Carnival rides Friday, May 17 Saturday, May 18 Sunday, May 19 Speciality foods, meals and events Friday - Italian dinner buffet hosted by Marchiori's Catering, 4 - 8 p.m., cost is $12.00 per dinner. Deer Spotted in Grosse Pointe Woods, Shores

Grosse Pointe residents caught the deer on camera this weekend. At least one was spotted in the backyard of a home on Vernier Road and can be seen jumping a fence.

Several residents of the Grosse Pointes spotted deer in the community over the weekend and in the last few days.  Readers Chris Profeta, Matt Frame and Karlyn Jones shared pictures of deer they spotted Sunday and Monday.  One shows a deer in the backyard of a home on Vernier Road south of Grosse Pointe North High School. Another shows two deer on Renaud Road between Morningside and Lake Shore.

Edwin Paul Salon Remains Under Same Ownership

The Edwin Paul Salon was not sold and remains under the same ownership and management.

The beloved Edwin Paul Salon on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods remains under the same ownership.  Edwin Framalino, president Edwin Paul Inc., remains the owner and operator of the salon at 20327 Mack Ave.  The salon offers a variety of haircare services including: haircuts, highlighting, coloring, styling, up-do's and special occasion services. Additionally, it offers facials, waxing and makeup. Featuring more than 20 stylists, the salon prides itself on the rigorous training schedule it requires beyond the state requirements.

Grosse Pointe Shores Police Help Motorist

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Shores police assisted a 63-year-old Warren man May 2 originally stopped for suspected drunken driving after it was discovered he was having diabetic problems. The man was weaving in and out of his lane of traffic in the 500 block of Lake Shore. The officer stopped him and he was confused and disoriented. A portable breath test showed the man did not have alcohol in his system. While talking to the man, it was discovered he had diabetes. The officer called for a paramedic to respond and take the man to the hospital, according to a report. Wife Files Report About Husband  A 45-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman reported to police that she awoke to a gun lying next to her in her bed April 26. She filed the report May 2, noting …

Boutique Owner Buys Spa in Grosse Pointe Woods

Local business owner Rose Marchese and her husband have taken over a local spa. In addition to making some updates, Marchese is trying to partner with the medical field related to massage therapy for patients and whole body care.

Rose Marchese took over ownership of a spa on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods formerly known as the Edwin Paul Spa in January. Marchese is also the owner of Hannah Bear Boutique and La Jolie Rose.  The spa is seperate from Edwin Paul Salon at 20327 Mack Ave., which is owned by Edward Framalino, president Edwin Paul Inc. Services and management at the salon remain the same. The spa is no longer named Edwin Paul Spa due it being trademarked, attorney Lisa Pinkos Howle said. A few highlights of the many events scheduled this week in the Grosse Pointes: 1. The Grosse Pointe Woods City Council will meet beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday. According to the agenda, the council will discuss:  2. The annual Grosse Pointe Woods/North High School PTO flower sale is Friday May 10 and Saturday May 11 in front of city hall on Mack Avenue. Flowers may be ordered in advance by May 9 and be delivered for free.  3. The Grosse Pointe Shores Finance Committee will meet beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday. An agenda has not yet been published.

Possible Hoarding Case Under Investigation

The following information is gathered by the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

The Grosse Pointe Woods Building Department will be following up on a home that is potentially a public safety hazard after police responded to a call for help from the resident. An 83-year-old woman called police to her home on Saddle Lane April 15 after she had fallen. She needed help getting up. While officers were in the house, they noticed signs of hoarding including dirty surfaces, magazines, paper, unopened food items and other household items littering walkways and concealing furniture. The woman was helped to her feet and refused medical treatment and transport to the hospital.
