UPDATE: Power Restored in Grosse Pointe Woods

Ferry Elementary School is closed for the day for students and staff after a power outage in Grosse Pointe Woods on Thursday morning.

SEPT 20, 9:42 A.M. DTE rews have restored power to the affected portions of Grosse Pointe Woods, according to a Nixle alert. SEPT. 20, 7:51 A.M. According to a Nixle report at 7:11 a.m. this morning, there is currently a power outage which was caused by a transformer in the rear yard of 720 Hampton. DTE has been notified. The affected areas are the north side of Hampton from 720 to the east city limits and all of Roslyn from Marter to east city limits, including Ferry school and the south side of S. Brys. Ferry Elementary School is closed today for students and staff due to a power outage. NOTE: This story was updated at 9:42 a.m. Sept. 20.

Man Accused of Streaking Down Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods Arraigned

A man accused of running naked down Mack Avenue was arraigned in Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Court on Thursday.

A man was charged in Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Court on Thursday in an April incident where police say he stripped naked and ran down Mack Avenue high on methamphetamines. Jeffrey Thompson, 30, of Livonia, stood mute to charges of public nudity, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to a report in the Detroit News. He could face 93 days jail if found guilty. Metry set a bond and ordered Thompson to take a series of drug tests, according to the Free Press. His lawyer, Samuel Gun, will meet with the city attorney June 13 to try to reach an agreement and keep the case from going to trial. Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety officers will be out the next two weeks making sure drivers are buckled up.

With the launch of the national Click It or Ticket campaign on Monday, Grosse Pointe Woods officers will be hitting the city streets extra hard in the afternoon, evening and overnight hours. Police Blotter: Arrests in Vehicle Thefts

Grosse Pointe Park and Michigan State police arrested three teenagers July 7 for stealing a minivan from a home in the 1100 block of Audubon. Officers responded to a complaint about a vehicle with suspicious people but they couldn't find anyone. A short time later, three teens led Michigan State Police on a pursuit in a minivan stolen from the home on Audubon Road. All three were arrested about 2:45 a.m. The teens are 14, 16 and 17. The oldest is from the 3000 of Buckingham while the others are from nearby neighborhoods in Detroit, according to a report. In another similar but unrelated case, Grosse Pointe Park police arrested a 24-year-old Detroit man July 10 after finding a stolen vehicle parked in his driveway on Ashland. The 1997 Dodge…

Police Blotter: Yorkiepoo Attacked by Dog on Walk Treated for 5 Broken Ribs

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating a dog attack on another dog that occurred July 5 about 9:15 a.m. near Higby and Morningside. A 50-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman told police she was walking her two small dogs when she began to cross paths with another woman walking two large black dogs. She said one of the large black dogs broke free from its owner and bit the woman's 1-year-old Yorkiepoo around the head and neck, shaking it violently. The black dog grabbed hold of the woman's other small dog after she was able to free the Yorkiepoo but her second dog did not sustain serious injuries. The Yorkiepoo has five broken ribs and two puncture wounds and is being treated by Michigan Veterinary Specialists. The woman was not able to…

Grosse Pointe Woods Police Investigate Explosion

The following information is gathered from the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating an overnight explosion that broke two flowerpots and shook the walls of at least three neighboring homes this past weekend.  A resident in the 800 block of Blairmoor Court called police about 11:20 p.m. July 1 after finding two flowerpots destroyed. Pieces of one of the pots were found as far as 25 feet away from its original location, according to a report. Neighbors reported hearing the explosion and having walls shake—to the point trophies were knocked off a shelf on a wall of a neighboring home, according to the report. Sgt. Police Blotter: Teens Arrested in Alcohol Crimes

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested three 18-year-olds July 1 after they crashed a vehicle into a home in the 20 block of Warner Road. The car and the home were damaged in the crash. Responding officers found two of the teens on the lawn of the home and witnesses showed the officers where a third teen ran following the crash. The three men, two from Grosse Pointe Park and one from the City of Grosse Pointe, were each arrested and charged with minor in possession of alcohol. The driver of the vehicle was also charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The driver initially registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 percent on a Breathalyzer test and later a 0.18 percent on the Breathalyzer. The teen who ran from the scene registered a…

Update: Men Arrested in Farms Suspected in More Than 20 Crimes

The men admitted to stealing items from vehicles and stealing a minivan following their arrest. The following information is gathered from the Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Detectives believe the two men arrested by Grosse Pointe Farms overnight are responsible for more than 20 crimes spanning about two weeks, Director Dan Jensen said.  The men were arrested overnight in connection with a series of thefts, according to a release published at 2:26 a.m. Jensen said a patrol officer spotted the men--ages 17 and 18--walking on the street. When he approached and talked with them, they began acting nervous and their stories did not make sense, Jensen said.  They told the officer they did not know each other's last names, where they were or where they were headed, Jensen said. This led the officer to investigate further and during a pat down for weapons, he found several stolen items such as cell phones, Jensen said…

Police Blotter: Woman Reports Assault

The following information was gathered from the public safety departments of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

A 57-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman reported being assaulted by a man she previously had sex with after he returned to her house on another day asking to have sex again. The woman reported the assault June 21 about 11:40 p.m., about half an hour after her husband found out about the assault. Detectives took pictures of the woman's arms, chest, legs and back. The assault happened days earlier. The woman told police she had sex with the man while he was doing work at her house and he returned several days later requesting to have sex again but she declined and he assaulted her. Police Blotter: 2 Cars Stolen Within 24 Hours

The following information is gathered from the City of Grosse Pointe Public Safety department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

City of Grosse Pointe detectives are investigating the theft of two vehicles that happened within 24 hours. In the first case, a 76-year-old woman reported that her 2001 Dodge Caravan was stolen between 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 19 in the 700 block of University Place. In the second case, a 35-year-old man reported that his 2009 Jeep was stolen between 11:30 p.m. June 19 and 9:30 a.m. June 20 from his driveway in the 800 block of Lakeland. The man walked out of his house June 20 to discover his SUV missing. Inside the Jeep, the man had a portable GPS unit, an iPod, a child safety seat, a set of golf clubs and miscellaneous clothing and books, according to a report.
