Grosse Pointe Public School officials are urging parents to register their children for kindergarten by noon Wednesday, especially for those wishing to take advantage of the half-day program at Ferry Elementary.
The deadline for registration for half-day kindergarten in the Grosse Pointe Public School System is Wednesday, May 30, at noon. Officials are concerned that the half-day kindergarten program may have to be cut if a minimum of 15 students are not enrolled by the deadline. Kindergarten enrollment at Grosse Pointe Public Schools has been slow this year, to the point that officials are now concerned the half-day program may have to be cut if a minimum does meet a May 30 deadline. The half-day kindergarten is slated to be at Ferry Elementary School in Grosse Pointe Woods but requires a minimum of 15 students to be enrolled in order for it to continue, according to a request to get the word out by district spokeswoman Rebecca Fannon. Enrollment for all of the kindergarten classrooms has been slower than last year and is causing a bit of concern among officials related to per pupil funding. Most all day kindergartens have eliminated rest time by February in the all day kindergartens. Our mornings are dedicated to language arts while are afternoons are dedicated to math, science and social studies.
