Hydrangea Kitchen to Add Outdoor Seating

The new cafe on Fisher Road next to its sister boutique will soon offer an outdoor dining experience to its customers after the City of Grosse Pointe council approved the request Monday.

Hydrangea Kitchen received unanimous approval Monday from the City of Grosse Pointe council to add outdoor seating to its Fisher Road cafe. The new restaurant at 371 Fisher Road will feature two tables with four chairs each on the sidewalk in front of its business accessible to its customers on a self-serve basis, city planner John Jackson said. Hydrangea's request is similar to what other eateries on Fisher Road offer as far as outdoor dining, Jackson said, explaining the restaurant does not serve alcohol so there is no requirement for the area to be contained. Customers will be allowed to take their meals outdoors to the tables if they wish to eat outside but tableside service will not be offered, Jackson said. The city does require that…

Hydrangea Kitchen Wins Over Pointers

The new café is drawing business from those who want fresh, elegant food in a comfortable atmosphere.

Hydrangea Kitchen began serving “exceptionally scrumptious and delightfully delicious” food last week, much to the satisfaction of its growing Grosse Pointe clientele. The new café, located next to its sister store Hydrangea Boutique, is at 371 Fisher Road in the City. It opened its doors Aug. 9 to reveal a charming, breezy décor in shades of white and light blue and whimsical French-inspired signs and furniture. A large old-fashioned chalkboard announces the availability of Belgian fries with catsup (curry or habanero) or aioli (rosemary or chipotle), while a large glass display case by the register lures sweet tooths with delicious pastries stacked elegantly on cake stands. The café is owned and run by Grosse Pointe’s Villareal family — …

Hydrangea Boutique to Open Café Next Door

Family-owned eatery aims to entice locals by offering “simple foods with complex flavors.”

Eager to strengthen and enrich the cozy Fisher Road business district in Grosse Pointe, the owners of Hydrangea Boutique are opening a café just next door at the site of the short-lived Tom’s Hog and Dog. Hydrangea Kitchen, which will begin service on Aug. 9, is the second Fisher Road business venture of Grosse Pointe’s Villareal family. The success of the boutique, which was opened by Malo Villareal and her daughter, Megan, in May 2010, inspired a culinary endeavor that will be a true family affair. Megan and her brother Ryan, both of whom cut their teeth in prestigious restaurants around the country, will manage the café, while brother Justin, a student at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, has developed the menu. The …
