A body found this week in a landfill in Riverview--a suburb south of downtown Detroit--has been identified as that of a 29-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man, according to the Detroit Free Press. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the death and trying to determine the cause of death. According to CBS Detroit, the body was found in an area of the landfill that is used for home demolition waste. It comes from a variety of places, including Canada. When the body was discovered by an excavator driver, it was unclear whether the person was male or female and it is the first time a body has been found in the landfill, according to a report in the Free Press.

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating a burglary in the 400 block of Kerby Road in which a television, jewelry, a watch and golf clubs were stolen Thursday. The front door of the home was kicked in, which is unusual, Farms Detective John Walko said. Typically on a busy street, burglars are not likely to enter through the front door, especially by kicking it in, Walko said. Doing so puts the burglar at higher risk for being seen by others, he said. The 50-year-old homeowner discovered the burglary about 2:15 p.m. Thursday upon arriving home. Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a man and a woman for trying to sell marijuana at the Mack-Moross BP gas station March 24. Employees called police saying the pair, ages 31 and 19, were harassing customers and possibly shoplifting from the store. Responding officers found the woman in the lot and the man exiting the store. They searched him for store merchandise and found marijuana separated into small bags. Each had four separate bags on them. Both were arrested and charged with selling marijuana, according to a report. Grosse Pointe Park police made two arrests in two home invasions. In the first case, they arrested a 28-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man for illegal entry of a home in the 1200 block of Wayburn March 16 after a resident heard noises outside, got up to check on it and found the man in his hallway. The resident called 911 and officers arrested the man at the house, according to a report. In the second case, they arrested a 19-year-old woman for home invasion hours later on Mach 16 after it was discovered she broke into a home in the 1400 block of Nottingham. City of Grosse Pointe public safety detectives continue to investigate the nature of the fire and now the third break-in at the collectibles store on Mack Avenue.
City of Grosse Pointe detectives have yet another crime involving Coins and Stamps to investigate after the burned out store was broken into about a week after a fire gutted it. According to a police report recently released, a man hired to clean out the store following the fire discovered it had been burglarized after noticing daylight was shining through from the ceiling early March 13. He had been working at the store the night before until about 6 p.m. and when he returned in the morning, he noticed there were some items in disarray on the floor and two glass cabinets were cracked. Bledsoe called police early March 26 after going outside to discover his car was no longer parked in his driveway. He said he parked it near the garage about 8 p.m. the night before. He told officers the back door of the car may have been unlocked and that his keys, which he normally places on a shelf near the back door, were gone. About 1:30 p.m. March 26, offices spotted the car parked on Neff Road with damage to the left front bumper and the right rear panel. Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of several pieces of jewelry totaling more than $6,000 in value from a resident who had recently moved. The woman discovered the jewelry was missing upon completing her move March 14 and told police a friend had been helping her place the jewelry up for auction and she was the only person who knew where the jewelry was. Two sets of pendants, two rings and a pair of earrings were among the jewelry stolen. One of the rings was valued at nearly $4,000, according to a report. The City of Grosse Pointe's K-9 officer, Raleigh, helped search for a man who was seen driving away from a house fire in Harper Woods on March 7. The man drove away, crashed his car in the 19900 block of Moross Road and then ran from the crash. Officers searched for the man, who had current weapons violations, but could not find him.
