The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office is performing the autopsy this morning on the 35-year-old woman found dead inside a home in the 1300 block of Wayburn early Thursday. If her death is ruled a homicide, it will be the second in about 18 months in
Grosse Pointe Park detectives are at the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office this morning awaiting the results of an autopsy of the 35-year-old woman found dead early Thursday. Detectives were asked to be there at 8:30 a.m. and will be there until the autopsy is complete, Capt. David Loch said early Friday. The woman, identified by media as Sabrina Gianino, was the head receptionist at Platz Animal Hospital. Loch told Patch early Friday there had not been a history of 911 calls to the duplex where she was found, 1316 and 1314 Wayburn St. He declined to explain the nature of the call at this time. The Grosse Pointe Park man already serving a prison sentence will not appear in 36th District Court on charges related to his wife's 2012 strangulation death until late August.
Bob Bashara had been scheduled to have a preliminary exam Tuesday in 36th District Court but the hearing was rescheduled for Aug. 19 after officials reached an agreement, according to Wayne County Prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller. Bashara was arraigned last week on murder and five other charges related to the January 2012 strangulation death of his wife, Jane Bashara. The charges were announced about 15 months after her body was found in the backseat of her SUV in Detroit. Bob Bashara made his first appearance Wednesday afternoon in 36th District Court on charges stemming from his wife's January 2012 strangulation death. He will return to court May 7.
A not guilty plea was entered on behalf of Bob Bashara Wednesday in 36th District Court after he was arraigned on six charges related to his wife's strangulation death in January 2012. Bashara is scheduled to return to court May 7 for a preliminary exam. He is charged with: If convicted, Bashara faces mandatory life in prison on the first degree murder charge; up to life on each the conspiracy, solicitation and suborning counts; 15 years for witness intimidation; and five years for obstruction of justice. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy will make an announcement Wednesday morning in the Jane Bashara case, according to a release sent from her office. Maria Miller said Worthy’s press conference will take place at 11 a.m. April 17 in downtown Detroit. Joe Gentz was sentenced to 17 to 28 years in prison in February after he pleaded guilty to to second-degree murder in the death of Jane Bashara, a Grosse Pointe Park resident. Bob Bashara, Jane’s husband, was named a person of interest in his wife’s death, but he has not yet been charged in the case. Bob Bashara is serving 80 to 240 months in prison after pleading guilty to a charge that he hired a hitman to kill Gentz.

The former handyman who admitted in December to killing Grosse Pointe Park resident Jane Bashara in January 2012 will serve 17 to 28 years in prison after being sentenced Tuesday morning in Wayne Circuit Court.
In approximately 15 minutes, Joe Gentz apologized for killing Jane Bashara, her sister asked that he be held accountable and Wayne Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans sentenced him to 17 to 28 years in prison Tuesday. Gentz pleaded guilty in December to second-degree murder in the strangulation death of Jane Bashara. Originally he was charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, carrying potential life in prison sentences. Evans highlighted the lack of thought by Gentz about whether it was wrong to kill Bashara. She followed plea agreement guidelines established by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and his defense attorney, Susan Reed. He will serve no less than 17 years and no more than 28 years. The sentencing for the man who admitted to strangling Jane Bashara to death has been re-scheduled for a second time--this time moving the sentencing up to Feb. 19 from a March date.
Wayne Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans changed the sentencing hearing for Joe Gentz from early March to Feb. 19, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Gentz, who pled guilty to second degree murder in the January 2012 strangulation death of Jane E. Bashara, will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Feb. 19. He was originally scheduled to go before Evans Jan. 29 then that was rescheduled to March 1. Wayne County Prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller noted the change in the sentencing date in an email case update Thursday morning. Gentz remains in custody.
