Patch Plays: Kayak Rental Comes to Lake St. Clair

Summer is here and St. Clair Shores is coming to life with a number of outdoor activities in parks, neighborhoods and the Lake St. Clair coastline. To celebrate our love recreation, Patch is trying some of these sports.

Entrepreneur Becky Quinn has turned a hobby into a growing business on Lake St. Clair. Quinn, 27, of Harrison Township, the founder of Simple Adventures, started renting kayaks about four years ago. What started a small business with two kayaks, has grown to more than 30 kayaks that are transported to launch locations at Chapaton St. Clair Shores, Lake St. Clair Metropark and the Grosse Pointes. Currently the paddlesport rental and delivery company is part-time job for Quinn, who works full-time as the director of training and education for Northwestern Mutual.  To help serve the needs of customers, she has a team of about six part-time employees during the weekdays. Triathlon to Return to the Shores, Pointes

St. Clair Shores recently gave approval to organizers of the Shores-Pointes Triathlon to hold the annual event this July.

Professional triathletes and weekend warriors will once again have the opportunity to run, bike and kayak through St. Clair Shores and the Grosse Pointes in the Shores-Pointes Adventure Triathlon. St. Clair Shores City Council recently gave approval to triathlon organizers to hold the event Saturday, July 21, in Blossom Heath Park. Last year 191 people from across St. Clair Shores and as far aways as South Carolina, Colorado and Mexico, participated in the inaugural event. Organizers expect to exceed that total this year. "We had an awesome success last year," event director Lynda Charow told council. "We expect two to three times more participants (this year)." The event will still be based in Blossom Heath, but will include a few tweaks …
