The new Red Crown restaurant in Grosse Pointe Park has been featured in the Detroit Free Press, where the owner reported her first week as being highly successful with a line of people waiting to get in the first night.
Red Crown restaurant served 400 meals its first Friday. There were also 25 people lined up outside on opening night March 6, according to information the owner, Mindy Lopus, reported to the Free Press. The restaurant is one of three Lopus is opening in Grosse Pointe Park this year. Construction is slated to break-ground in a few weeks on Tallulah's and the alterations to the former Mulier's Market for the future BonaFide Bakery are nearly complete, as reported by Grosse Pointe Patch this week. The trio of eateries is only the beginning of a larger development plan by Grosse Pointe Park's Cotton family for the Kercheval Avenue business district. They began acquiring commercial properties in the Park at least a year ago--not long after the …

Red Crown, the first of three restaurants by Mindy Lopus' Silver Pig Restaurant Group, is slated to open this month, with the other eateries to follow soon.
The sign in front of Red Crown restaurant's new digs in the old Standard Oil Station in Grosse Pointe Park announces that they are hiring in preparation for their opening on Jan. 22. "Yes, we're hiring," Mindy Lopus said with smile. In fact, Lopus said that her Silver Pig restaurants will hire nearly 130 people between her three restaurants: Red Crown, Bona Fide Bakery and Tallulah's in the coming months. For now, Lopus is concentrating on staffing Red Crown with the 68 employees that will include waitstaff, kitchen and bar employees. Remodeling of the spaces for Red Crown and Bona Fide Bakery, located in the former Mulier’s Market, has progressed at a breakneck pace since Lopus announced her restaurants were coming to Grosse Pointe Park…

Grosse Pointe Park neighbors hope new eateries will attract more foot traffic to business district.
David Murie remembers when Grosse Pointe Park was bustling with foot traffic to his antique store and seven others in the city. Today, his is the only remaining antique store in the Park. Murie hopes that the addition of the Silver Pig Restaurant Group's three new restaurants in the heart of the Park's business district will bring people back to eat—and shop. "We've been here 23 years and we need this change. It's about time," Murie said. Murie's store, Lloyd David Antiques, is directly across Kercheval from the former Standard Oil service station, which is being renovated to host Red Crown, the first of Mindy Lopus' Silver Pig Restaurant Group's projects to begin construction. Like many park residents, Murie said he's known that a …

Birmingham restaurateur Mindy Lopus will be opening not one, but three new eateries in Grosse Pointe Park this winter and spring —starting with Red Crown in the old Standard Oil Station on Kercheval.
It’s raining outside, but that doesn’t dampen Mindy Lopus’ mood or smile as she gestures to the former Standard Oil service station at the corner of Kercheval and Beaconsfield in Grosse Pointe Park. “Isn’t it great,” Lopus grins watching workmen bang away as they transform the former garage into her vision for Red Crown, an American comfort food destination that will embrace the same farm to table philosophy of Lopus’ Birmingham restaurants, Tallulah’s Wine Bar and Bistro and Bellapiatti. Lopus’ latest venture, Red Crown, is a departure from the French bistro flair of Tallulah’s and the rustic Italian fare of Bellapiatti--which opened last year and made the Detroit Free Press 2011 list of Metro Detroit's 10 Best New Restaurants. The new…
