The weekly concert outdoor concert series will feature the Detroit Jazz All Stars on St. Clair Street near Kercheval Avenue in the Village. The free music begins at 7 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
The Detroit Jazz All Stars will perform tonight at Music on the Plaza at Kercheval Avenue and St. Clair Street. Much of the music will be swing along with jazz. The All Stars are also known as Marge's Bar Band and includes: Jim Wyse, Johnny Trudell on trumpet and flugelhorn, Chuck Moss on trombone, John Hammer on piano, Bill Bolle on bass and Bob Pinterich on drums. They perform at Marge's in Grosse Pointe Park on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. They've also performed at the Michigan Jazz Festival and the Detroit International Jazz Festival along with other locations throughout the metro area. The Sun Messengers--a tradition of Music on the Plaza--will perform tonight at 7 p.m. providing a mix of music from rhythm and blues to pop to big band and more on St. Clair Street near Kercheval Avenue in the City of Grosse Pointe. Dancing is encouraged, according to the Village Association. The well-known band has been performing for more than 30 years and is the former house band for the Detroit Pistons. The free concert opens at 7 p.m. on St. Clair Street near Kercheval Avenue. The street is blocked off during the concert and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs to listen to the live outdoor concert. This week's Music on the Plaza features Johnnie Bassett, a blues guitarist, who has performed with many famous musicians.
This week's Music on the Plaza concert features a blues guitarist who often performs at Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe and has been recognized for his musical career by the Detroit Blues Society. Johnnie Bassett has worked with a variety of well-known musicians, including John Lee Hooker, Dinah Washington, Tina Turner and Alberta Adams. His 1988 recording of Cadillac Blues was nominated for five W.C. Handy Awards. The free concert opens at 7 p.m. on St. Clair Street near Kercheval Avenue. The street is blocked off during the concert and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs to listen to the live outdoor concert. A Detroit-based dance band, The MillionAires, will perform tonight at 7 p.m. at Music on the Plaza.
The MillionAires will return to Music on the Plaza tonight for the first time since 2006. The Detroit-based dance band features swing, jump-blues, rhythm and blues and latin jazz. The free concert starts at 7 p.m. at Kercheval ad St. Clair. The seven-piece band is led by bassist Bob Conner. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for the shows, which are every Thursday at 7 p.m. through early August on St. Clair Street near Kercheval Avenue. Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South jazz bands will open the outdoor concert series Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. at St. Clair Street and Kercheval Avenue.
The Village Association will open its 25th annual season of the popular outdoor concert series—the 2012 St. John Hospital and Medical Center Music on the Plaza—Thursday featuring the jazz bands from Grosse Pointe North and South high schools. The free series opens Thursday, June 7 and continues each Thursday through Aug. 2. Some seating is available but concert-goers are encouraged to bring chairs as the St. Clair Street is blocked at Kercheval Avenue from traffic for the performances.
