Pond Hockey Tournament to Return to Lake St. Clair
Organizers are planning a weekend of games for the Nautical Mile Pond Hockey Winter Classic, and hoping for cold temperatures to freeze the Lake St. Clair.
Organizers of the Nautical Mile Pond Hockey Winter Classic are hoping for a traditional winter this year to allow for a weekend of outdoor hockey games on Lake St. Clair. The inaugural tournament had been planned for this past January, but unseasonably warm temperatures and a lack of ice led to the cancellation of the event. Even though Mother Nature didn't cooperate, there is still a large amount of interest in the event by sponsors, organizers and teams. "All the ground work was set out last year," said Greg Esler, St. Clair Shores Parks and Recreation director. "We are excited about it."
