Police/Fire Blotter: Drunk Driver, Grill Fire

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 53-year-old Birmingham man May 12 for drunken driving after he was spotted crossing the center line repeatedly. The man did not pass the field sobriety tests and had a 0.17 percent blood alcohol content. He was arrested in the 700 block of Lake Shore Road shortly after 1 a.m., according to a report.  Grilling Lambchops Ends in Grease Fire Grosse Pointe Shores Public Safety officers were called to a home in the 60 block of Hawthorne for a small indoor grill fire May 11. The responding officers found the resident had been cooking lambchops on the indoor grill when a grease fire ignited. The woman extinguished it but asked officers to check the cooktop to make sure it hadn't spread. They removed lava …

Pursuit Ends in Crash, Arrest of Man, 18, in Grosse Pointe Park

Grosse Pointe Park police arrested an 18-year-old man May 12 following a pursuit that went into Detroit and ended with a crash into a tree. Officers initially stopped the man for an equipment violation on Mack Avenue shortly after midnight. The 18-year-old stopped the Dodge Durango he was driving briefly but then drove away, according to a report.  A pursuit ensued on several Detroit streets. During the pursuit, the teen struck a curb and flattened both of the front tires on the SUV. He continued driving however, later crashing into a tree.  Neither the 18-year-old man nor were any of his three juvenile passengers injured during the crash, according to a report.  All four were detained, according to Park police, near Mack and Ashland. Ophthalmology Equipment Stolen from Trunk in Grosse Pointe Park

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating the theft of ophthalmology equipment from a parked car, according to a report.  The equipment was taken from a car parked in a driveway in the 1400 block of Maryland. It was locked and the equipment was in the trunk.  It was stolen between 8 p.m. May 4 to 9 a.m. May 5 from a 2013 Ford Focus, according to a report.

Battery on Maire Playground Ends in Arrest

City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a 28-year-old Detroit man May 7 for domestic battery after his wife reported that he assaulted her on the playground of Maire Elementary School. He called the woman to find out where she was, then came to the school playground. The woman repeatedly refused to give him her cell phone. He grabbed her hair and snapping her neck backward causing her to nearly fall to the ground while taking her phone. She then tried to call 911 from her daughter's cell phone but he took the phone away from her to prevent the call. She got and their children got into her car and left. Her husband followed her to Moross and Gratiot. Then she contacted police. Two other people at the playground witnessed the battery and …

Pursuit Ends in Arrest of Grosse Pointe Park Teen

City of Grosse Pointe police arrested an 18-year-old Grosse Pointe Park resident May 5 shortly after midnight after he was spotted leaving the parking lot of South High School and failed to yield right of way as he exited. The officer began initiating a traffic stop, but the teen continued driving and sped up. The pursuit continued reaching speeds of 50 miles per hour and the teen drove through stop signs. He was eventually arrested at Neff and Maumee after an officer blocked the teen at the intersection. While searching the vehicle, police found 30 cans of beer inside a cooler and another container. The teen said he obtained the alcohol from a friend's house and drank one. A 17-year-old passenger was with him but had not drank any alcohol…

Police Blotter: Rental Car, Purse Stolen

A City of Grosse Pointe resident reported his rental car stolen May 10 after finding that it was no longer where he parked in the night before on St. Clair Street. The car, which had been due back that day and police are checking to see if the rental car company came to retrieve the vehicle before it's entered as stolen, according to a report.  Credit Fraud Reported A 35-year-old City of Grosse Pointe resident reported finding a fraudulent account opened in her name while reviewing her credit report May 7. The woman found the account with Comcast and discovered that a payment had never been made so the account was sent to a collection agency. $60K Stolen From Grosse Pointe Farms' Man's Checking Account

The Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the theft of about $60,000 from the checking account of a resident, who discovered the missing money after the bank contacted him.

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the theft of about $60,000 from a checking account belonging to a resident.  The man was recently contacted by his bank on a weekend about checks being cashed for large amounts on his account. The man went into the bank to look into it more the following week and discovered approximately $60,000 worth of checks had been cashed from December 2012 to May 2013 that had not been authorized by him. The man told officers he believes a checkbook was stolen from his home and used in the crimes, according to a report.

Credit Fraud Reported by 2 Farms Residents A 40-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms resident reported to police that his credit card number had been stolen and used to purchase $500 worth of items in two transactions. The man said he had recently been traveling so he is unsure of where the number was stolen but reported the two purchases were not made by him, according to a report filed May 9.  A 58-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman reported discovering a fraudulent account opened in her name after receiving a notice from a collection agency about an unpaid bill. The woman reported the fraud May 8. It was used to obtain AT&T services for an address in Westland. The bill was more than $1,000, according to a report.  Broken Window Sign of …

Burglary, Thefts from Vehicles Under Investigation in Grosse Pointe Park

The following is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating the burglary of a vacant home in the 1100 block of Beaconsfield in which a neighbor saw three men running away Saturday. A K9 officer was used to search for the men but they were not found. The three men were reported by the neighbor shortly before 7 p.m. May 5. There is not believed to have been any loss as a result, according to a report.  Series of Thefts from Vehicles  Grosse Pointe Park police are investigating a series of thefts from vehicles.

Stolen Prescription Pad Under Investigation in Grosse Pointe Farms

The following information is gathered from the Departments of Public Safety of the Grosse Pointes. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the fraudulent use of a prescription pad by two people trying to obtain drugs from a pharmacy. A pharmacy employee reported that the prescriptions were not legitimate and police interviewed people from the doctor's office. The doctor said the people trying to obtain the drugs were not his patients. One is from Canton and one is from Ann Arbor. They reported to a pharmacy employee that the prescription pad had been given to them by the doctor's son. The doctor said it wouldn't surprise him because he had previously gotten in trouble for such an offense that was expunged from his record.
