A meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in Grosse Pointe Woods involving officials from DTE, Grosse Pointe Woods and the state's Public Service Commission concerning the lack of consistent service to certain areas.
Grosse Pointe Woods residents are invited and encouraged to attend a meeting Wednesday at the Community Center during which DTE officials will explain what caused a weekend long power outage to the neighborhood plagued by such power failures for years. DTE officials are also expected to explain their plan to address the problem to ensure reliable, consistent service. The meeting is one of the promises DTE officials made to residents and council in mid-July during a council meeting in which residents and business owners shared their dissatisfaction about their service. The information is to address specifically the neighborhood northeast of the Mack and Vernier intersection, which serves about 1,200 DTE customers. Wednesday's meeting, which…

In about 30 days DTE is expected to provide Grosse Pointe Farms officials with updates about the progress of updates and repairs being made to the infrastructure that are intended to bring more stability to power service in the city.
After DTE officials explained several on-going projects in Grosse Pointe Farms that are intended to increase the stability of power service to residents, the council Monday night requested regular updates about their progress. Regional Manager Joseph Cazeno Jr. agreed to providing updates shortly after announcing his upcoming retirement that is slated to happen in late September. He also introduced his replacement, Jennifer L. Whitteaker, who is already transitioning into the position. During the update given by Cazeno and Senior Planning Engineer Todd Henning, they mentioned several projects. Henning explained that the projects are targeting areas within the Farms that have been problematic. Henning outlined one project for a circuit that…

A hearing for Grosse Pointe Woods will be held in about 30 days by DTE to provide answers about what happened most recently and what action is being taken to correct the problem.
Two DTE officials who appeared before the Grosse Pointe Woods city council Monday were met with heavy criticism by residents and business owners following a recent three-day outage in the neighborhood northeast of Mack and Vernier. During the outage, DTE continually made estimates about restoration time that were repeatedly extended--to the point that on the third day, the Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety hand-delivered letters to residents letting them know there was no restoration estimate that could be made because repair attempts had failed. That followed a great deal of unrest last year following an outage that led to an investigation revealing that DTE had not performed upgrades that were supposed to have been done …

Power has been restored for nearly 1,500 DTE customers throughout the Grosse Pointes but 531 remain without late Sunday--the majority in Grosse Pointe Shores.
Power has been restored for about 1,500 DTE customers in the Grosse Pointes Sunday, including the nearly 1,200 customers in Grosse Pointe Woods who lost power Friday near Mack and Vernier. There are still 531 who remain without, however. The largest concentration of outages in the Pointes late Sunday is an area in Grosse Pointe Shores with 322. There are scattered outages throughout that impact one or a few customers but nothing as widespread, according to DTE's Outage Map. The map shows 462 customers in the 48236 zip code are without power and 69 in the 48230 zip code. For the area in Grosse Pointe Shores, there is not yet a restoration esimate and the cause remains listed as an area outage. Restoration for many in the Pointes is coming …

The scattered power outages across southeastern Michigan grew today and DTE officials are working 16 hour shifts to repair the problems. As of early this morning, about 560 customers in Grosse Pointe were without but now there are more than 2,000.
More than 2,000 DTE customers in the 48236 and 48230 zip codes are without power this afternoon after the number of outages throughout southeastern Michigan grew from early this morning. More than 1,000 of those in the Pointes straddle the neighborhoods on the Grosse Pointe Farms-City of Grosse Pointe border. According to the DTE outage map, power was lost a few minutes before noon Thursday. The estimated restoration, which is the latest time repairs could happen to restore the power, is Sunday morning between 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The area in Grosse Pointe Farms from Mack to Lake Shore between Moross and Kerby remains out, which is 562 customers. The estimated restoration for this area is Saturday morning between 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., …
Approximately 562 customers in Grosse Pointe Farms are without power Thursday morning, according to the DTE Energy outage map.
Thursday morning’s thunderstorm has left more than 500 homes without power in Grosse Pointe Farms. According to the DTE Energy outage map, 562 customers in Grosse Pointe Farms just south of Moross are without power. It is not known when power will be restored, according to the website. Recent storms and the heat have left thousands without power in the southeastern Michigan area. As of 8 a.m. Thursday morning, DTE spokesman Scott Simons said 190,000 customers were without power in southeast Michigan. "This is the fourth storm we've had since Tuesday morning, so we have to keep reassessing priorities," he said. "But, we do know the restoration process will take us into the weekend." Simons said the utility had reduced the outage number from…

DTE outlines plan to fix portion of city plagued by power outages and brown-outs but residents question whether work will actually be done. Some who live outside of the area question what will be done to fix the problems they've experienced this summer.
More than two dozen Grosse Pointe Farms residents questioned DTE officials Monday during the city council's meeting after they presented a plan to fix what they've identified as a problem circuit. The backbone of the problematic circuit, which serves residents from Charlevoix to Lake Shore Road from Kerby to Muir roads, is not strong enough to disperse power throughout the grid when the system is taxed, said Todd Henning, senior planning engineer. The area's three most recent outages–July 21, 29 and Aug. 1–were due to downed trees causing downed lines in the first two and the third was due to a lightening strike, he said. Crews have already been out to the area and trimmed the trees responsible for two of the three outages, which will …

Timing just happens to follow recent series of outages but the meeting had been scheduled long ago to address some lighting projects that are only partially complete and power grid concerns about the Village.
A recent but long ago schedule meeting between DTE Energy and City of Grosse Pointe officials was productive and helpful, City Manager Pete Dame said. The meeting held July 21 was at the request of DTE but allowed city officials to express some of their concerns too, Dame said. The timing is coincidental but convenient following the most recent rash of outages to the Grosse Pointes, including the City. Two DTE vice presidents briefed city officials on current work crews are completing on Charlevoix from University Road to Fisher Road with the goal of increasing reliability of the that area, Dame said, explaining the benefits will reach Mack Avenue. DTE also offered to meet regularly with the City going forward. The requests shared by …

Officials are scheduled to appear before the council Monday July 18 during their committee of the whole meeting at 7 p.m. Details about an upcoming project are likely to reviewed, according to the Woods city manager.
DTE officials will discuss the power grid in Grosse Pointe Woods that has historically been plagued by power outages Monday before the city council in the group's informal work session meeting. Their appearance comes following a lengthy outage in early June in which many homes and business were without power for 20-plus hours. The lengthy outage is blamed on a lightening strike, Woods City Administrator Al Fincham said. Obviously lightening cannot be stopped or controlled, he said. The bigger reason for DTE's appearance on Monday is to explain why the power grid serving the neighborhood plagued by outages does not have the proper ability to maintain service. The neighborhood--off Mack Avenue to Marter Road from Vernier Road to the St. …

The spotty outages are heaviest in Grosse Pointe Farms and Grosse Pointe Park and follow tonight's severe thunderstorms and lightening. DTE has not yet have an estimated time for restoration.
Lightening lit up Lake St. Clair and the Grosse Pointes tonight before, during and after the severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area. The weather threatened cancellation of the Grosse Pointe Farms fireworks display but ultimately cleared just in time. Following the storms, that are responsible for downing at least a few trees in Grosse Pointe Park, more than 3,300 Grosse Pointers are without power, according to DTE. The outage maps show the 2,518 outages in the 48230 zip code and 817 in the 48236 zip code. The concentration is heaviest in Grosse Pointe Park and Grosse Pointe Farms. In the Park, the area between Jefferson and Lake St. Clair as well as the neighborhoods nearing Alter Road are most affected. In the Farms, the …
