Grosse Pointe Chamber Recognizes 2013 Pointers of Distinction

The Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce recognized three business owners and three students as the 2013 Pointers of Distinction.

Six Grosse Pointers have been recognized as the community's "Pointers of Distinction" for 2013 by the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce. The annual awards recognize individuals who are making strides in business and community service as well as high schoolers who are active within the community. The winners are: Editor and Publisher of Grosse Pointe Magazine, John Minnis, is the winner for the New Business Enterprise category. Owner of Village Grille, Dan Lemanske, earned recognition for the Excellence in Business category. Owner/President of Wright Enterprises and Executive Director of Racing for Kids, J. Patrick Wright, is the winner in the Community Service category. The students recognized this year are:

Good Morning Grosse Pointe: Sept. 1

A few quick bits of information to get the day started in Grosse Pointe.

Five quick pieces of information to get the day started in Grosse Pointe: 1. Don't forget the umbrella, there is a 20 percent chance of rain before 10 a.m. with mostly cloudy conditions that will clear later in the day, according to the National Weather Service. The temperature will reach 85 and conditions will remain clear at night with the temperature dipping to 73.  2. Amy Pugliesi recently opened The Pilates Movement Center with a focus on individual training through the lengthening and strengthening form of exercise. Photo Gallery: Racing for Kids Street Fair

Hundreds of people descended upon the Hill Wednesday afternoon for the annual Racing for Kids Street Fair, meanwhile organizers began setting up for the evening fundraiser that will for the first time happen outdoors on Kercheval Avenue.

The fifth annual Racing for Kids street fair drew hundreds of people Wednesday afternoon to the Hill in Grosse Pointe Farms.  Racing for Kids is a charity that raises money for the pediatric units of a variety of area hospitals, including Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe.  An evening fundraiser begins at 6 p.m. at Northern Trust Bank. There will be a live auction, food, cocktails and live music. A Racing for Kids official said there is a surprise auction item to be unveiled following one racecar demonstrations. 

Racing For Kids Street Fair Takes Over the Hill

The fifth annual street fair featuring a variety of children's activities and cars will close Kercheval Avenue on the Hill today from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The flags have been up for weeks. The annual Racing for Kids street fair opens today at 11:30 a.m. offering many children's activities as well as a display of a variety of cars. Kercheval Avenue will be closed by Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety for the event. The street fair is scheduled to close at 3 p.m. An evening fundraising reception begins at Northern Trust at 6 p.m. The live auction features luxury items and proceeds to be given to pediatric departments of several area hospitals, including Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe. The streetfair will offer: Tickets may be purchased at the door for the evening reception for $90, which includes gourmet foods, cocktails and live jazz music.
