Three Restaurants Planned for Grosse Pointe Park

Birmingham restaurateur Mindy Lopus will be opening not one, but three new eateries in Grosse Pointe Park this winter and spring —starting with Red Crown in the old Standard Oil Station on Kercheval.

It’s raining outside, but that doesn’t dampen Mindy Lopus’ mood or smile as she gestures to the former Standard Oil service station at the corner of Kercheval and Beaconsfield in Grosse Pointe Park. “Isn’t it great,” Lopus grins watching workmen bang away as they transform the former garage into her vision for Red Crown, an American comfort food destination that will embrace the same farm to table philosophy of Lopus’ Birmingham restaurants, Tallulah’s Wine Bar and Bistro and Bellapiatti. Cafe Nini tops the Food Fight poll as the most romantic restaurant in Grosse Pointe.

Looking for a romantic restaurant? Then try Cafe Nini, which Patch users called the most romantic restaurant in Grosse Pointe. Cafe Nini, which is located at 98 Kercheval Ave. in Grosse Pointe, received 46 percent of the vote to win the Food Fight poll. Bucci Ristorante, Da Eduardo’s and Dylan’s Rawbar and Grille were the other contenders in the poll. Voting took place from Wednesday morning until Friday at 5 p.m. Congratulations, Cafe Nini, and thanks to all who participated in the Food Fight by voting in the poll and leaving comments on the site. With the Super Bowl almost here, Marge's Bar and Grill wins Food Fight poll as the best place for gametime grub in Grosse Pointe.

Are you ready for some football? If so, Patch users say Marge’s Bar and Grill is the best place for gametime grub in Grosse Pointe. Marge’s Bar and Grill, located at 15300 Mack Ave. in Grosse Pointe Park, received 86 percent of the vote to win the Food Fight poll. Green Zone Pizza, which is located in the Village, finished second with 14 percent. A survey of chefs around the country show locally grown ingredients, healthful kids' choices and sustainable fish rank highest among customers.

Restaurants sometimes surprise us with leading-edge cuisine, but owners and chefs know success depends mainly on pleasing the customer. A new national survey of 2012 menu trends gives high rankings to healthful kids’ meals, regional ingredients and fish that isn't endangered. "Locally sourced meats and seafood" and "locally grown produce" are the top two menu trend choices of nearly 1,800 chefs surveyed by the National Restaurant Association. Nutritious children's meals featuring whole grains, vegetables and fruit also will be on more menus, according to the online survey of American Culinary Federation members last fall.
