A group composed of property owners and business owners in the Village of Grosse Pointe have created a new organization to create awareness and generate discussion within the community about business development.
The property owners and many of the store owners in the Village have formed an organization they've named the "Voice of the Village." So far the organization has a Facebook page but it will eventually have a website too, according to one of the founders James V. Bellanca Jr. Bellanca manages 18 properties in the Village on behalf of a family trust. The objective of the group is to provide information to the community about business development in the Village and to raise awareness about what is actually happening in the Village, he said. Based on his interaction with people from the community who know he manages properties there, he said there is a lot of misperception and inaccurate information floating around about the Village, the …
The Grosse Pointe Art Center completed its most recent move within the Village and this location is more permanent rather than temporary.
The Grosse Pointe Art Center moved, again. This is the third home for the art center featuring the work of local artists in less than a year. This home, unlike the others, is more permanent, however. The Grosse Pointe Art Center now has a normal lease for its space at 17118 Kercheval Ave. and cannot be willfully moved, said property manager James V. Bellanca Jr. Bellanca manages 18 properties in the Village on behalf of a family trust. The trust has given the art center storefront space for the last several years under an arrangement that allowed it to be moved if a paying tenant were interested in the space. The art center first opened in the Village in the former Village Toy store, where it remained for several years near Kercheval and …

Renderings by a local property designer show what the future businesses will look like along Grosse Pointe Park's Kercheval Avenue business district.
As construction is about to begin for one future Grosse Pointe Park business and it's nearing completion for another, the property designs offer a sneak peek into the final look of Tallulah's and BonaFide Bakery. Tallulah's and BonaFide Bakery will add to the landscape of the Kercheval Avenue business district in Grosse Pointe Park, similar to that of Red Crown, which has been open for a few weeks and is reportedly doing well. Property manager and general contractor Robert Ermanni, on behalf of the Cotton Family, shared the property renderings for both new businesses slated to open this year. Both show outdoor seating. Tallulah's has considerably more while BonaFide shows a smaller area, likely due to the nature of the businesses. Tallulah…

The former Lucy's space on the Hill is currently under renovation for a new restaurant, Luxe Bar and Grille.
A new restaurant will be opening on the Hill this spring named Luxe Bar and Grille. Construction is on-going in the former Lucy's restaurant at 115 Kercheval Ave. Lucy's closed last summer permanently. A sign initially told passersby of a plumbing problem that needed to be fixed but the restaurant had been in default on financial obligations. The new restaurant is currently underway, Grosse Pointe Farms Director of Public Service Terry Brennan said. The opening will likely be in late spring, he said, citing the pace of construction. The restaurant is one of many new businesses to make the Hill its home in the last several months. Capricious, a high-end shoe and accessory store, opened in November next to the League Shop; Beaumont Grosse …

The new home store on the Hill officially celebrated its grand opening early Monday with a ribbon-cutting with the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce and Grosse Pointe Farms officials.
F & H for the Home on the Hill in Grosse Pointe Farms celebrated its grand opening Monday. The store, owned and operated by Nina Tocco, offers home decor and interior design with Swedish and Belgian influences. The showroom/design studio opened March 9 in the former Bambu Restaurant space at 75 Kercheval Ave. Tocco remodeled after gutting the building down to the studs. Everything in the store can be ordered, even in the bathroom--a decision she made purposfully with the intent of showing clients ideas and enabling them to incorporate it just as they see it in the store. Tocco is aiming to work with local businesses, designers and artists, she said, noting a specially produced ceramics line by an artist who lives on Neff Road and fires …

The development project by the Cotton family to turn the Grosse Pointe Park's business district into a thriving attraction for potential new residents is well underway with renovations and remodeling planned for several properties.
Construction on the future home of Tallulah's --one of three eateries by Silver Pig Restuarnt Group slated for Grosse Pointe Park's business district-- will break ground in a few weeks. It is one of several projects that will be underway this spring related to the development of Grosse Pointe Park's business district along Kercheval Avenue planned by the Cotton family. The family's general contractors and property managers Robert Ermanni and Dave Quint took Patch on a tour of the Park properties this week reviewing the plans and timeline. First up, construction for Tallulah's is only a few weeks away. Additionally, the future home of BonaFide Bakery is nearing completion. While the progress is not visible to passersby because of the …

What began as a simple real estate transaction for the Cotton family's property management/development plans in Grosse Pointe Park in purchasing Janet's Lunch has evolved into a difficult situation.
Janet's Lunch in Grosse Pointe Park has been closed for business for two weeks and questions about the building, the restaurant and what's next have been abuzz in the Grosse Pointes. The closure was quite unexpected but very much necessary, said Robert Ermanni and Dave Quint, general contractors and property management for the Cotton family. The longtime Grosse Pointe Park diner is a staple for many and has been serving meals for decades. Its recent closure, the Cottons recognize, has been upsetting to many in the community, Ermanni said, noting it was never their intention. In fact, the Cottons had intended to keep Janet's Lunch in full operation with the same management by the building's owner, Robert Larson. Purchasing Janet's Lunch and…

A new home store in Grosse Pointe Farms opened Saturday offering items ranging in price point from $8 to $25,000. The building, which formerly housed Bambu, was gutted and remodeled for F & H For the Home.
Nina Tocco says her new store, F & H For the Home, has something for everyone. The new business at 75 Kercheval on the Hill offers a variety of design options for homes from floor to ceiling and everything in the middle. The new business opened Saturday. Tocco, 29, grew up in Grosse Pointe Park. She went to school in Chicago for fine art with heavy emphasis in fine arts and fashion design. She had been living in Palm Beach before she moved back, where she worked for the Ritz Carlton as a merchandiser and purchaser. After moving back to the Pointes, Tocco "fell in love with interiors," she said, explaining it had been an interest of her mother's for years. Meanwhile, the storefront at 75 Kercheval opened up when Bambu closed, spurring her …

Red Crown restaurant opened Wednesday for dinner in Grosse Pointe Park's business district along Kercheval Avenue.
The much-awaited Red Crown opened Wednesday in Grosse Pointe Park, offering diners the opportunity to have dinner inside the remodeled Standard Oil building that stood vacant for years. Eventually the restaurant will be open for lunch as well but for now it will be open for dinnertime only. The hours this week are 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday; 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the restaurant's Facebook page. Employees made a dinner menu available via its Facebook page early Wednesday. Red Crown is one of three eateries Mindy Lopus, of Silver Pig Restaurant Group, is opening in Grosse Pointe Park this year. The others are Bona Fide Bakery and Tallulah's. It was originally slated to open in late January but final inspections were not …

It is sad when elected officials feel they have no obligation to share information and to conduct business in the open. It's the law. It's in city charters. Still, compliance seems to be an option. See the article in the News/Freep today (4/7) regarding real estate transactions in the Park. As long as voters allow local officials to operate this way, they have no right to criticize the way …   more ›
