Mr. Ricci ran a good, solid campaign. We both worked hard. I have congratulated him on his successful campaign and wish him the best, he too wished me success in the future. I will continue to stay involved, and remain dedicated to my committee work which will unveil some significant technology upgrades this spring. Meet Grosse Pointe Farms Candidate: Liz Vogel

One of the two candidates vying for the vacant Grosse Pointe Farms city council seat touts her passion and familiarity with the community.  Elizabeth Vogel, 30, is eager to continue participating in the community where she's grown up. This is her second time seeking a council seat. In 2011, Vogel ran a write-in campaign seeking a seat in an attempt to unseat an incumbent following massive, repeated flooding of basements in the inland district of the Farms. She was not successful but did gain a a significant number of votes, especially for a write-in candidate.  She believes her previous work within the community--from fundraising to volunteering and more will aid her as a council member if elected. Vogel is an executive assistant for …

Jeff Laethem, First of all I want to congratulate Joe Ricci even though I voted for Liz. I appreciate your feedback on the original Meade dealership. I will make sure I let everyone know that it's not business as usual at the old Ken Meade Dodge Dealership. I know Ray Laethem ran a stellar and a meticulous Pontiac/Buick/GMC New Car Dealership as did Jim Causley whom I ordered my first car, a 1965…   more ›

Hi Julie, Really sorry you're leaving the Farms. I think you would have brought some grounding to the city council. I too think Shane is a pretty good City Manager, but it seems many members on the city council fulfill their elected positions as if at the country club and have forgotten that they are elected by the residents to serve the community and residents – all of the residents. Your letter…   more ›

Julie Lattimore, there will apparently be 3-4 seats up in November 2013. With all due respect to the nine interested - and Lisa Gandelot has already had her turn, I think you would be good on the council and for the Farms - I hope you would consider it.   more ›

Grosse Pointe Farms Discusses Council Vacancy

Grosse Pointe Farms officials will be accepting letters of interest along with a resume from any resident wishing to fill the vacant seat on city council following the passing of Mayor Pro Tem Joseph Leonard.

The Grosse Pointe Farms city council will decide in the coming weeks how to fill the vacant seat following the passing of Mayor Pro Tem Joseph Leonard. Council members discussed their options this week. Among the options are City Attorney William Burgess gave council the many details that would accompany either decision. Ideally, officials would be able to have the seat on the November ballot during the presidential election, he said, but at this point it is not feasible, Burgess said, explaining why the election would have to be in February if they appoint a candidate. If the council chooses to appoint a resident to the position, they must do so within 60 days of when Leonard passed away--which is only a few days after their next regular …
