Grosse Pointe Woods, St. John's to Talk Helicopter Procedure

Grosse Pointe Woods and St. John Hospital officials will discuss noise complaints and flight paths this week related to the use of a helicopter for life-flights.

About two months after the Grosse Pointe Woods city council approved the use of a helicopter by St. John Hospital and Medical Center, officials are meeting to discuss flight paths and regulations, Woods Building Official Gene Tutag said. The hospital received a special land use permit from the city in November to set up a temporary helistop for a medical helicopter. The permit has several provisions, including a "fly neighborly" procedure that requires the helicopter to fly over major corridors rather than over residential areas when coming in for landing or taking off.  The corridors include I-94, Moross Road and Mack Avenue.  Officials will meet this week to discuss the four flights that have happened since the approval was given in late…

Kara, Todd is right. Concerns Lodged by Farms, Detroit Officials About Proposed McDonald's

The application for special land use for the former Lochmoor Chrysler dealership site was taken under advisement Wednesday following a hearing in which Farms officials and residents voiced their concerns.

Concerns about the proposed plans for a McDonald's restaurant on the site of the vacant Lochmoor Chrysler dealership were voiced by not only Grosse Pointe Farms officials and residents but also by a Detroit city planner.  The blueprints of the proposed 4,362-square-foot restaurant call for a double lane drive-thru, 52 parking spaces and heavy landscaping. McDonald's is planning to lease the land from its current owners and the site would be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up, said Tom Gergich, McDonald's real estate representative. The restaurant, he said, would be a vast improvement as compared with the current weed-choked vacant lot that has become an eyesore to motorists and adjacent businesses.   The building's front would face …
