Black-tie event at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial collects hundreds of toys for Toys for Tots
Hundreds of toys were donated at the annual Toys for Tots celebration on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. More than 300 people attended the event that was black-tie optional. The event was chaired by two couples: David and Janet Cornillie and Donna and Brian Satterfield. United States Marines attending the event on behalf of the Toys for Tots Foundation were: LtCol Benjamin Stinson, LtCol Eric Hamstra, 1stSgt David Auwen, Cpl Patrick Block and LCpl Adam Richey.

The holidays are made a little brighter for needy children in southeast Michigan when a new toy is delivered by Toys for Tots--that is the mission of the United States Marine Corps Reserve's program said Staff Sergeant Robert Stoddard, this year's Marine Coordinator. Stoddard is assigned to the 1st Battalion 24th Marines at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. "This year the need is even greater than last year. We're doing our best to help out every needy child," Stoddard said. Stoddard said more donations are needed, however. The 37th annual Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade is the biggest event of the year in the Grosse Pointe area, and the 2012 edition will showcase nearly 100 parade units and community groups!
