The building formerly housed Crowther Carpets, which moved further down Mack Avenue into Grosse Pointe Woods nearly a year ago. With approximately 3,200-square-feet, the building has display windows on two sides--one facing Mack Avenue and one facing University. It is the corner store of a small group of businesses, including Henry's Cleaners, Coins and Stamps and more. The building is for lease. In addition to having more marketing space with the windows, the building also has some off-street parking located behind the building.

GPFL, I have fantasized about a larger preppy store in the Village myself. I was a huge patron of Hickey's when it was open and still miss Bill and Mary Jo's wide selection of my favorite brands (Barbour, Lacoste, Vineyard Vines, Bill's Khaki's, Trafalgar, etc.). It previously housed Hydrangea Boutique before the owners decided to move it into their other business--Hydrangea Kitchen--only two doors down. Before housing the Hydrangea Boutique, it housed the Jane Woodbury Shop. One the corner of a building that houses many other local businesses, the storefront is zoned for commercial use and features a 150-foot store window. The neighboring business is David the Salon. This week's selection for Visions for Vacancies is the site of two former pharmacies in Grosse Pointe Woods: 20853 Mack Ave. It housed Manor Pharmacy for years before the owner decided to close a few years ago and began working for a nearby corporate pharmacy. Then the owner of a pharmacy in St. Clair Shores opened a second location in the temporarily vacant building, naming it Pointe Pharmacy. The new pharmacy remained in the location for about a year before shuttering its doors and removing the signage. This week's selection for Visions for Vacancies is a building that formerly housed GAP. The building is in the City of Grosse Pointe's popular downtown retail/business district, the Village. Building owner Robert Sfire is anxious to find a tenant but also conscious about bringing in one that would thrive and one that would be a nice addition to the Village. While the building is currently set up for retail, Sfire believes a restaurant would work well. He also believes a retail clothing store for tweens and teens would be a nice addition to the Pointes.
