Hope at the Table volunteers will gather monetary and food donations at Grosse Pointe Kroger locations this Saturday.
This month, Gleaners Community Food Bank and Kroger are working together to bring hope to the tables of hungry southeast Michiganders. Each Saturday in January, volunteers will spend their day at local Kroger grocery stores across southeast Michigan, handing out information about the Bringing Hope to the Table initiative, as well as accepting donations of nonperishable food and money from shoppers. Volunteers will be out at the Grosse Pointe area Kroger stores this Saturday, Jan. 5, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., in addition to other locations in Wayne County. The Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce and Patch will collect canned food for Gleaners at the Community Expo on Tuesday night.
The Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce and Grosse Pointe Patch will collect canned food for Gleaners at the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce Community Business Expo on Tuesday at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. To donate, simply bring your canned or non-perishable food items to the expo and drop it at the donation box by the Grosse Pointe Patch table. The statistics are grim, especially for children. One out of four Michigan children lives in a household with food insecurity, meaning they do not always know where their next meal is coming from. In southeast Michigan, nearly 40 percent of more than 100,000 people receiving food assistance each week are children under age 18. Poor nutrition, particularly in the first three years of life, has profound implications on a child’s physical and mental health, development, academic achievement and economic productivity.
