The following information was provided by Grosse Pointe North swimming coach Michael O’Connor. The Grosse Pointe North boys swimming and diving team defeated Henry Ford II Thursday night by a 118-63 margin. Grosse Pointe North had two double winners. Danny MacAskill took the 200- and 500-yard freestyle while Matt Leone scored wins in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Individual winners included Patrick Turnbull in the 200-yard individual medley, William McNelis in the 1-meter diving and Matt Stander in the 100 yard breaststroke. A junior at Grosse Pointe North has died after an apparent accidental shooting, according to myfoxdetroit.com.
A Grosse Pointe North student has died after being accidentally shot at a Detroit home, according to a report on myfoxdetroit.com. Fox 2 reports that the 16-year-old junior and Harper Woods resident was at a party early Sunday morning when a 19-year-old accidentally shot her while showing off a gun. The 19-year-old also shot himself in the finger. "I couldn't believe it because she (was) a good kid, (went) to school, she didn't get into (any) trouble, none of that, just hanging (around) with the wrong crowd," Ejuan Barnett, the 16-year-old’s father, told the television station. Grosse Pointe North offered counseling services to students on Monday.

Blue Devils finish second as a team at the Division 1 cross country state championship.
Hannah Meier and the Grosse Pointe South girls cross country team finished second at the Division 1 girls cross country state championship on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, according to the MHSAA. Meier finished second with a time of 17 minutes, 34.5 seconds. Erin Finn of West Bloomfield won the overall title with a time of 17:07.9. Meier's performance helped Grosse Pointe South finish second in the team standings with 88 points. Birmingham Seaholm won the championship with 69 points. Ersula Farrow of Grosse Pointe South finished eighth with a time of 18:05.3. Other top runners for the Blue Devils were Kelsie Schwartz (18:22.9); Haley Meier (18:32.5); and Mary Spencer (18:56.8). The Grosse Pointe North girls cross country team finished fourth at the regional meet at Metro Beach on Friday.
Grosse Pointe South hosted the Division 1 regional cross country meet at Metro Beach on Friday, and the Blue Devils claimed the team championship with 26 points. Hannah Meier of Grosse Pointe South took first place with a time of 17 minutes, 16 seconds, and South's Kelsie Schwartz placed second. Also in the top twelve for South were Haley Meier, Ersula Farrow, Mary Spencer and Megan Sklarski. Grosse Pointe North's girls cross country team finished fourth at the meet. Allison Francis was the top finisher for Grosse Pointe North. She was 14th with a time of 18:54. Grosse Pointe South ousted Grosse Pointe North 2-0 in a Division 1 district semifinal soccer game at GPN on Wednesday night. Senior Andrew Cornwall and senior Mark Adamszek scored for Grosse Pointe South. Grosse Pointe South will play Lakeview in the district championship game on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Grosse Pointe North.

The Grosse Pointe North girls golf team finished third at the Division 2 regional tournament on Wednesday at Pontiac Country Club to qualify for the state finals. Grosse Pointe North finished with a four-player score of 376 to place third out of 15 teams at the event. Birmingham Seaholm finished first, and Fenton was second at the regional tournament. Ali Scoggin led GPN with a 90. I found Ms. Kennedys speech to be very inspiring!! I also find Coach Coopers dedication to the girls on the team and his leadership as a coach and mentor to be unparalleled.
