A new business, Jungle Juice Bar, featuring fruit and vegetable smoothies, raw juices and more, celebrated its grand-opening Thursday with a vine-cutting with the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce.
Jungle Juice Bar in Grosse Pointe Park was a longtime in the making. Co-owner Regeania Hunter-Coleman essentially turned a hobby/lifestyle of her own into a business, she said. For years, she has been juicing her own combinations at home. It began years ago when she discovered she had an allergy to an ingredient in vitamins. She still needed the vitamins but was prevented from consuming vitamin pills as a result. Now years later, Hunter-Coleman along with her niece, Syretta Hunter, own Jungle Juice Bar in Grosse Pointe Park. The store, owned and operated by Nina Tocco, offers home decor and interior design with Swedish and Belgian influences. The showroom/design studio opened March 9 in the former Bambu Restaurant space at 75 Kercheval Ave. Tocco remodeled after gutting the building down to the studs. Everything in the store can be ordered, even in the bathroom--a decision she made purposfully with the intent of showing clients ideas and enabling them to incorporate it just as they see it in the store. Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe opened a new clinic on the Hill that offers non-surgical treatment for varicose veins in an outpatient setting. The vein clinic, 87 Kercheval Ave., is located next to Morning Glory Coffee and will treat adult patients. According to information from Beaumont, the clinic will specialize in three types of treatment: The first uses laser technology to cauterize the veins; the second uses micro-incisions to remove the veins; and the third uses a fine needle to inject a blocking agent to stop the growth of the varicose or spider vein. Officials from the City of Grosse Pointe, the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce and employees of the new pastry/crepe in the Village celebrated the business this week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Sweet Little Sheila's Pastry and Crepe Cafe will soon open in the Village offering counter service morning coffee and pastries, sit-down lunch and dinner crepes with soup and sweet treats for the taking throughout the day. The new cafe opened by the owners of Side Street Diner, Megan Spicer and Sheila Taylor, is still awaiting inspection by the Wayne County Health Department. They are hopeful the inspection will happen within the next several business days as they are prepared to open. They had originally planned to open this week following the ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce and City of Grosse Pointe officials, but the scheduling for the inspection has taken longer due, they said. Subway on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods will be hosting an "under new ownership" event on its new outdoor dining patio today and Saturday as part of a celebration related the change in ownership. The new owners, Niko Ahee and Dion Blumentritt, acquired the location in early May. They own four other Subways, making this their fifth location. I agree, by going overboard, he is " polluting" a legitimate message. Hopefully, there are many others who can campaign PROPERLY for what that feel is just and right and fair as GPW residents as I do not agree with the 2 upcoming ballot proposals. After four months of being closed during a relocation that happened rather unexpectedly, Kevin Crowther is happy to be open again--this time in a new storefront on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods. Crowther, the owner of Crowther Carpet and Rugs, moved his business from the corner of University and Mack Avenue in the City of Grosse Pointe following an arson that destroyed Coins and Stamps earlier this year. The arson, which remains under investigation, followed a series of burglaries at the business, and Crowther said this week he believes if somone was angry enough to set that business on fire, they are likely to return.
