I grew up on the East Side of Detroit, attended Regina High School and then Michigan State University, where I recieved a bachelor's degree in journalism and English. I've worked at newspapers in the South — including The State in Columbia, SC, as well as dailies in Hilton Head Island, SC, and Wilmington, NC. I've been a business reporter, city editor, and copy desk chief.  In Michigan, I've written for the Metro Times, Detroit Free Press, and the Grand Rapids Press. I've also am a contributor to a soon-to-be-published book about all things Michigan.
