Yes, this needs to be addressed, but I hope people are careful NOT to cast stones. We don't know the whole story and, if the truth was told, I'm afraid we'd have to admit that we ALL have problems in our families...yes, even in Grosse Pointe. He'll suffer plenty of consequences, privately and publicly. Haters not necessary.

Above all, be authentic. The world has enough counterfeit. People are hungry for something real and true. Fill that need. Be real and the world will embrace you.

I truly hate to hear of stories like this. The elderly are some of the most vulnerable in our society, and people who prey on them are a special kind of LOW. It sounds like this elderly gentleman has no family to support him in his older years. I sincerely hope he finds the right place to live. When I saw this, this guy immediately came to mind. He helps people find appropriate living arrangements, based on the care and the location they need. It's a free service, and I cannot even tell you how helpful it is when sifting through the maze of options.

Thank you, Todd and Anthony. It's great to hear talk and strategy toward solutions. Sounds feasible. My daughter and son-in-law, both of whom grew up in Grosse Pointe, are closing on a nice home in Harper Woods this month.

What the heck is going on? Are there strategies in place to counteract this trend?

Jim, If only you knew how ironic THAT statement is...
Not at all, it's just that I don't always have to classify mistakes as gross, sweeping indictments of character or competence. Dr. Harwood publicly apologized for the confusion and said he accepts responsibility for the "bumbs in the scheduling and mechanics of the event." He went on to say the district does not want to create any "barriers" for students to attend the speech. - and I'm certain that no-one regrets the issue being exploited on national television more than Dr. Harwood. People love to find reasons to criticize GP.
Jim, truly, the harshness of this black-and-white thinking and absolute absence of grace bother me a little.

Can I just say that I am seeing some irony here...Many of you are expressing your disapproval of Dr. Harwood's original decision, in the context of a disregard for varying opinions. Ironically, though, I am disturbed by the presumption that many of you are applying to Dr. Harwood's motives in making that decision. The ulterior and sinister objectives that have been assigned to him are not based on fact, but rather based on conjecture. Unless you have spoken directly to him about this matter, it is not fair, nor ethical to assign a premise or agenda to his actions. To make this a personal attack only weakens your own position. A person's character is not fair game, just because you don't agree with his decision. I appeal to you to show some respect for our Superintendent, who is a good man with a tough job, and who genuinely cares about our kids...whether I always agree with him or not.
