Grosse Pointer Helping Organize Luncheon to Benefit Belle Isle

When nearly 500 women descend on Belle Isle for the Belle Isle Conservancy annual Legacy Luncheon next week, the work of Grosse Pointe resident Stephanie Shelters and others will ensure the event goes off without a hitch.

Shelters has organized decor, catering and rental details, for the Polish the Jewel, Belle Isle Legacy Luncheon at the Belle Isle Casino.

"I thought it was a great way to give back to the community," said Shelters, who attended her first luncheon last year and began to volunteer for the Conservancy.  

This year a tent has been added to accommodate attendees at the Sept. 25 event. The event will feature a champagne reception in the casino with a silent auction along with lunch in the tent. 

"We try to keep it short and sweet," said Shelters, of the scheduled two-hour luncheon.

She also has worked with vendors to maximize the amount of funds that go to the Conservancy from the luncheon. 

"I really like to make every dollar count," said Shelters, who works full-time as a major gift donor for McLaren Macomb Healthcare Foundation.

"I am really working with vendors that have a charitable sense," she added. "We want to bring in as many dollars as possible while having an upscale luncheon." 

According to a release, the mission of the Belle Isle Conservancy is to protect, preserve, restore and enhance the natural environment, historic structures and unique character of Belle Isle as a public park. For more information about the luncheon, visit the Conservancy's website.
