Suspects in Moosejaw Robbery Arraigned

Two suspects who police believe were involved in the robbery of Moosejaw have been arraigned.

Two men who police allege robbed the Moosejaw in Village Friday, and nearly hit two police officers, have been arraigned in connection with the robbery.

The arrest stem from a robbery about 1:45 p.m. Friday of the Moosejaw. One of the suspects, a 23-year-old from Detroit, allegedly stole more than $1,000 of items from the store and entered a waiting car.

A witness was able to get a license plate as the vehicle fled, and gave it to police.

Officers were able to trace the plate back to a rental car agency, who assisted police in locating the vehicle on I-94. Responding officers stopped the car on Harper at Wayburn, and were able to detain two of the suspects from the car including Cornel Hayes, 23, of Detroit.

The driver of the car, fled and nearly struck one of the City of Grosse Pointe officers. The officers fired at the driver, who continued driving.

Director Stephen Poloni stated that the rental car agency was able to use a kill switch to stop the Toyota Yaris.

The 26-year-old driver from Detroit, Devonte Daniels, fled. According to a report from Grosse Pointe Farms police, found the car in the Greensboro and Haverhill in Detroit.

Witnesses said the driver had taken off running on Greensboro and was between the houses. Multiple departments flooded the area, according to the report, and located Daniels hiding in a large black city garbage can.

Hayes was arraigned Sunday on retail fraud and is being held on $100,000 bond.
