Best-Selling Author Offers New Thinking About Children

 

GROSSE POINTE FARMS – In a world of modern, involved, caring parents, why are so many kids aggressive and cruel?

Po Bronson, this year’s Grosse Pointe Academy McMillan Lecturer, will discuss how modern society’s strategies for nurturing children are in fact backfiring.

Delving into his best-selling book "NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children," he will reveal that when it comes to children, we’ve mistaken good intentions for good ideas. Bronson brings his research to life with wit, first-hand experience, and a journalistic appetite for the truth, covering a variety of parenting techniques and topics and addressing all stages of childhood, from toddlers to teens.

The lecture is free to the public and will be held on Thursday, November 8 at 7 p.m. in the Tracy Fieldhouse, 171 Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe Farms.

The William Charles McMillan III Lecture Series is a gift from Thayer and Gioconda McMillan given in memory of William in the interest of emphasizing the importance of elementary education.
