Walk-in MinuteClinic Opens in Grosse Pointe CVS

MinuteClinic, the largest provider of retail-based medical clinics in the United States, has opened a new walk-in clinic in Grosse Pointe inside the CVS/pharmacy store at 17120 Kercheval Ave. It is the first clinic location in Grosse Pointe and the second in Wayne County, joining the clinic in Northville at 44300 Five Mile Road.
 
“Since opening our first store-based clinic in Michigan in 2006, we have helped to expand access to high-quality, convenient and affordable care to thousands of residents who have visited us at convenient CVS/pharmacy locations near where they live and work,” said Andrew Sussman, M.D., president, MinuteClinic and senior vice president/associate chief medical officer, CVS Caremark Corporation.  “We believe MinuteClinic can be part of the solution to Michigan’s efforts to broaden access to quality health services.”

Nurse Practioners Frederika Robinson and Karen Smiley will staff the Grosse Pointe MinuteClinic.  

Smiley, who has worked with MinuteClinic for six and half years, said the brief wait times and affordability are what makes brings patients to MinuteClinic, but the personalized care and education are what keep her patients coming back.

"After you've been seen at our clinic, we call you 24 hours later to make sure the you are on the way to recovery or if additional medical attention is needed," Smiley said.

MinuteClinic practitioners use a software program that at the conclusion of each visit generates educational material, an invoice and a prescription (when clinically appropriate) for the patient, as well as a diagnostic record that can be sent via electronic health record, fax or mail to a primary care provider with patient permission.

MinuteClinic nurse practitioners specialize in family health care and can diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common family illnesses such as strep throat and ear, eye, sinus, bladder and bronchial infections. Minor wounds, abrasions, skin conditions and joint sprains are treated, and common vaccinations such as influenza, tetanus, pneumonia and Hepatitis A & B are available at most locations. Walk-in camp, sports, college and DOT physicals are available daily.

In addition, MinuteClinic administers a series of wellness services designed to help patients identify lifestyle changes needed to improve their current and future health, including screenings and monitoring for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

MinuteClinic has a clinical affiliation with Henry Ford Health System wherein Henry Ford physicians serve as on-call medical directors to the MinuteClinic locations in Southeast Michigan, including Grosse Pointe. In addition, MinuteClinic and Henry Ford collaborate on patient education and chronic disease management. Henry Ford physicians accept patients who need a level of care not provided at MinuteClinic.

No appointments are required at MinuteClinic and most health insurance is accepted. For patients paying cash or credit, treatment prices are posted at each clinic and on www.minuteclinic.com. 

The MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinic in Grosse Pointe operates from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
