Village Toy Company Ready for 'Small Business Saturday'

'Small Business Saturday' on Nov. 24 will reward customers who shop with American Express at small businesses across the country with a $25 statement credit.

The Village Toy Company is abuzz with little feet and curious faces as children crowd into the popular toy store on Kercheval Avenue in The Village in Grosse Pointe.

It's a Friday afternoon in November and yet the holiday hum is already in full swing as children swirl through the store looking at the latest toy offerings for this holiday season and heading to a birthday party in the store's special event suite.

Owner Ellen Durand said that, while no one toy is the "Tickle Me Elmo" for 2012, there are several toys that she expects to be popular with kids this year.

"Anything by Melissa & Doug--"Good Wood" toys--are very popular," Durand said.

Calico Critters are loved by little girls, Durand added.

For the tweens, Durand suggests her store's wide array of personalization services that make a variety of items unique and special.  Hugely popular with tweens and teens is the El's room decor line too, she said.

"Santa will be in after the Parade on Friday and every Saturday until Christmas," Durand said.

Durand also hopes that shoppers will take advantage of American Express' special offer of a $25 statement credit for a $25 purchase made from a qualifying small business on Nov. 24.  The promotion is part of "Small Business Saturday."

"Small Business Saturday is the only way we small businesses can compete with the big retailers on Black Friday," Durand said.

The Village Toy Company is located at 17112 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe, Michigan 48230.  Phone 313-882-1300.
