Grosse Pointe Woods Police Assisted in DeWulf Homicide Investigation

Family wants answers but police have released few details to date.

Grosse Pointe Woods police issued a statement last week that they are actively investigating Donald L. DeWulf's murder with the assistance of the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, as well as the Michigan State Police Detective Bureau and the Detroit Police Homicide Unit.

Donald Lionel DeWulf, 54, was found dead in his home on the 2000 block of Hampton Road by a family member at approximately 9:40 a.m. on Nov. 26, according to a press release issued by Grosse Pointe Woods Police.

In a Detroit Free Press article, the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office reported DeWulf died of a gunshot wound to the head. DeWulf's brother, Peter DeWulf, said that police are not sharing much information with the family.

Grosse Pointe Woods Police Lt. John Ross said the Wayne County Prosecutor's office has taken the lead in the investigation and any further releases would be from their office.

Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said in an emailed statement to Patch, "The case is under investigation as a homicide and not a suicide. The police investigation is ongoing. Although it's natural for people to want information it is premature to comment. We would not want to adversely affect the investigation in any way."
