Grosse Pointe South Girls are Division Champs at Disney Soccer Showcase

Olivia Withers, Franny Weber and Danielle Manning - all Grosse Pointe South students - join teammates from Metro Detroit, Grand Rapids and Windsor, Canada on the U17 Gators to win division championship at Disney Soccer tournament.

 

Three Grosse Pointe South High School students have helped their travel U17 soccer team, the Michigan Gators, win their division championship game at the Walt Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, FL on Jan. 3.

The Michigan team bested Loudoun County Soccer Club of Loudoun, VA in the Disney championship round.

According to the Gators coaching staff, there were 96 U17 teams and of those, only three were undefeated: Team Chicago, the Japanese International Team and the Michigan Gators.

The Gators are also the reigning U17 Michigan State Champions - an honor they have won twice.  They are currently ranked 9th in Region 2 and 61st in the national rankings. The team will be traveling to Iowa for the Regional Finals in June.

The Gators players are: Brittany Gill, Raechel Eck, Jordan Newman, Olivia Withers, C. Steinwascher, Franny Weber, Carly Alfano, Maria Jaramillo, Caitlin Carroll, Shannon McDevitt, Madison Duncan, Sarah Triccoli, Kelly Hawthorne, Laura Taylor, Danielle Manning and Amanda Mladenovski.  The Gators are coached by Henry Steinwascher  and Dan Triccoli.
